Heading South 2026

Here we go again.

Its mid-October and the first cold fronts and socks-required temperatures have arrived on Cape Cod. Time to migrate south.

The overall plan this season is to spend the bulk of the winter in the southern Bahamas with a return to New England sometime in May or June.

The strategy is to first navigate down the coast to Beaufort, NC for a brief yard period. We’ll spend a few weeks working on the bottom, deleting a seacock or two and possibly adding new depth and speed transducers. Then, after a quick flight home for Thanksgiving, Dave and Andante will continue south with stops likely in Charleston, SC and Fernandina, FL before heading across the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas. Although Dave is doing the transit solo we’re expecting visits from friends and family throughout the winter.

My apologies for the long break in content. We’ve spent the last two summers enjoying ourselves on short trips around Cape Cod but haven’t taken the time to document and share our travels. I will try to do better over the next 6 months.

Last of the fresh food loaded before leaving Red Brook Harbor yesterday. Andante is carrying more food than on any previous trip as we’re hoping to spend time in some fairly remote areas of the southern Bahamas. There will be fresh food wherever there are people. But good tomato paste, sardines and pizza flour can be hard to find. So I packed a LOT.
Peaceful view from Andante’s new blink camera on the mast this afternoon in Hadley Harbor, Naushon Island. Waiting for a wind shift tonight before starting the 28 hour slog southwest through Long Island Sound towards New York City early tomorrow morning. Ready to go!
